I just picked up Twitch City, one of my all-time favourite shows, on DVD. It’s an amazing show about a (maybe) agoraphobic played by Don McKellar, his obsession with TV, and the ongoing quest he has with his “room”mate, Molly Parker (who moved in after her boyfriend, the previous roommate, accidentally killed a homeless man with a can of cat food) to find someone to rent their extra room.
It’s wonderfully absurd—I remember episodes about a group of neo-Nazis moving in (every member of Sloan guested as a Nazi), a mysterious box left by a gypsy-type, and one where his cat tries to take over the world (“we also hate squirrels.”) But the reason I started watching was an interview with McKellar (paraphrased):
Bruce McCulloch played Rex Reilly* in the first season, but the second season didn’t start until two year later and he had a prior commitment. So we got Mark McKinney to do it. Maybe people won’t notice since it’s still a Kids in the Hall.
* A Jerry Springer-like talk show host. Episode one features Snake from Degrassi as a guy who slept with his mother(!!!)
