I used to be in a shitty band
Making coffee this morning, I heard a faint song coming from my laptop. I could only hear the drums, but I thought it was awful.
Turns out it was the one and only demo from the poor-decision metal/techno band I formed when I was 19. We did the one demo (really awful) before I realized that I was in a metal/techno band and broke it up.

I thought I saw Magneto today...
They’re filming parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine next to my office, and I saw a tall white haired main exiting the hair and makeup trailer to a crowd of screaming fans. Then I checked IMDB and found out that Ian McKellen isn’t even in the movie. So I saw whichever main character has white hair during a scene with very fake-looking tanks.
Hey, so I need to ask your advice about.. math. And you’re the only person...

In lieu of the silly personal post I deleted…
I went live with the new Canadian Literature website yesterday. Lots of good stuff!

Wolverine!
THAT’s why the Buchanan Tower looks like an internment camp! Apparently there’s a scene where someone jumps off a tower (full of academics) in the middle of a forest (university campus).
Excuse Rolodex →
Reposting for bored-at-work traffic. I needed to tell someone on the weekend that I didn’t want to work with them, and couldn’t think of a good excuse. Amazingly, there wasn’t a Seinfeld-esque Excuse Rolodex, so I made one.
Please visit and suggest a few excuses. Thanks!
PS. Big thanks to the weekend’s rebloggers, and to Kurt for the first submissions!

I think it’s worth noting that this is a benefit for War Child, so if you steal it from the internet, you might want to flip them a tenner or something. Also worth noting that this is awesome, but it may be a different kind of crime against humanity to let Hot Chip cover Joy Division and Lily Allen cover the Clash.
3-Day Novel Contest Winners Announced →
The winners and honourable mentions are up. None of the manuscripts I judged made it, which is probably a good thing. I read one about a “detective” who was always hired to solve cases in an alternate dimension that he accessed through the Googol Café. His contact was named Godot. The plot was that a musician in this alternate dimension was searching for “the hat of epic metal...
Beach House at Richard's
It was an alright show. The left front speaker and stage monitors kept going out so things were a bit rough, and I don’t understand why a band would bring a live drummer and not make the songs more live-friendly (I spend the show in perpetual “ok, there’s going to be a drum fill and the song’s going to be epic… oh wait, the song’s over”), but the vocals...

Please reblog this if the first draft of your designs are embarrassingly terrible. I’d be happy to know I’m not alone on the matter.
Maybe a little in need of emotional support… just a little.
They’re supposed to be terrible—mine are, anyway. Otherwise you’ve got nothing to improve.

Me: Oh! I watched Hackers on the weekend!
Her: I've never heard of that one
Me: Really? It came out in like, 1995... all about hacking
Her: Nope, don't know it
Me: It's awesome! Johnny Lee Miller, one of Angelina Jolie's first movie credits, rollerblades EVERYWHERE... it was the perfect movie for a 14 year old me. I was just getting into computers and blah blah blah ridiculous 3-D GUIs blah blah blah gratuitous Angelina Jolie nudity blah blah blah but they referred to it as a 28.8 baud modem, and NOT k-baud... CONTINUITY ERROR! HAHA! blah blah blah everyone acted like James Spader in Less Than Zero blah blah blah everyone is attractive. Have you EVER seen an attractive hacker? blah blah blah SO GOOD!
Her: Do you have the DVD?
Me: Yeah, but I'm never lending it to you. I'd feel so guilty if you actually wasted an hour and a half of your life watching it. I love it, but it's really a horrible movie.
