I don’t get it, James Murphy can make DFA, the band, change their name, but these guys are straight up named Grizzzzly Bear, and no one does nothing?
It’s all about single letters. Back in the day when Bush was huge, they had to release under Bush X up in Canada because there was already a Canadian Bush. Bush Bush Bush.

Anyone who has ever played this game will know every once of David’s motions by heart. Amazing.

How I Woke Up
DJ: ...and they're an experimental band from Eastern Quebec, near the Labrador border.
DJ: Experimental is a nice way of saying that it's sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic, sometimes something else.
DJ: Kind of like my love life. It's been experimental for the past 20 years or so... Sometimes it's electric, sometimes it's acoustic...
DJ: I wish I'd thought about where I was going with this...

Masthead Magazine Closes After 21 Years →
This is absolutely terrible news. I’ve had issues with the magazine and its website in the past (that post led to a small chain reaction after it was quoted on an industry blog), but there is no other magazine comparable in terms of scope and importance for Canada’s magazine industry. I read every issue as it came in, frequented the website almost daily, and have always been impressed...
Dentist
So the bad news is that I need a root canal. But the good news is that after six dentist-free years, I only have damage equivalent to two years sans-dentist. I think that’s good news, anyway.
I put off seeing a dentist for a couple of reasons. My dentist in Montreal ended up marrying my friend’s mother, so we were pretty close. I’m not a fan of strangers touching me, especially...

I’m also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the...

3 Day Novel
I’m finally finished my first package of 3-Day Novel Contest manuscripts. While they’re mainly stinkers, I read a couple that could very well win the prize. Oddly enough, there’s A LOT of unnecessary violence and racism in some.
I’ve never had the chance to read novels at such an early stage. I’ve been an editor, but it’s always been for newspapers and...
Vanilla as Tooth Ache Cure
So I was awake from 2am to 7:30am last night with a killer tooth ache (I get migraines, and this was worse). Tylenol, ibuprofen, benzydamine, brushing, flossing, gargling with salt water, frozen compress (cranberries), mouth wash; none of them worked. I started planning the day—I was going to call a dentist at 8am to get an appointment, then head down to the medical clinic for better painkillers...
Star Trek
Her: I actually liked the old one best
Me: Oh no! Are you a Kirk fan?! Is he your favourite Captain?
Her: Well, I guess that's where it comes down to a matter of opinion
Me: What? No! That's where it comes down to a matter of fact. Jean-Luc Picard is awesome
